I moved to the Port Townsend area in the fall of 2021 and have been awed by the advocacy for performance arts here. It is a pleasure to serve and take part in this community. Throughout my life, music has comprised the means of expression of my soul’s heartache, desire and joy. I hope that as a teacher I can facilitate your soul’s expression through music. With a deep understanding of reading the written note, we can each express ourselves through playing the piano. I strive to bring this joy of reading and playing music to all my students.
How I became a Musician
I began playing piano at the age of 5 and spent many hours at the piano enamored with the passion of music. Throughout adolescence, I enjoyed playing the piano for hours studying the compositions of Mozart, Clementi, Bach and many other classical composers. As a teenager, I grew into ragtime, my family musical history of gospel and continued my studies in classical music. I spent my young adulthood, singing in choral ensembles, piano accompaniment for ensembles and theatre performances and solo performances of voice and piano. In college, I sang in choirs, studied music theory and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Arts, specializing in Jazz performance and music theory. I performed in jazz clubs in Seattle, college graduation ceremonies and various theatre and drama performances through the years.
